I think if we could get away with an asymmetrical A camera interview frame with a “to-camera” eyeline we would save time. Often we are forced into a specific location and have to relight the whole space and set dress everything to get this perfect symmetry and that takes a lot of time.
Imagine these compositions with the eyeline to camera.
Recurring Motif
Overhead shots of multiple characters desks and workspaces could be a nice repeating motif or quick succession of jump cuts.
Texas
Some ideas to help you throw to the character in Texas.
What do you do when you’re about to close a sale?
Do you pace around your apartment or go outside? Where is the strangest place you’ve taken a call?
Do you have any pets?
What are we going to show to establish the problem? To set up people being in financial need? Is there a scene we can show our character purchasing something? Handing over cash? Swiping a credit card?
Maybe the key to this is really strange and interesting compositions? I don’t actually have examples of that.
One idea for VFX is a Limitless style incorporation of numbers on the wall behind our character. Perhaps more subtle than the reference below.
I love the idea of setting up the “stress” of needing a loan with our character crunching numbers on a calculator and writing in a notepad and then getting a shot of her massaging the back of her neck. I think that shot would say a lot.
San Diego
I love the idea of the “boss” coming in and turning on the lights in the office. Or turning them off at the end of the day. Or anyone doing that.
